African council for distance education
During Nov. 3-5, the delegation of the African Council for Distance Education(ACDE) including Prof. Faisal Elhag, Vice President of ACDE and President of Open University of Sudan, and Prof. Rotimi Ogidan, Executive Director of ACDE visited SOU.
ACDE, approved by the African Union, is a continental educational organization comprising African universities and other higher education institutions. The purpose of the delegation’s visit to SOU is to strengthen cooperation and communication, and to explore the possibility of conducting cooperation in the area of information and communication technology.
The delegation was invited to attend the international conference held in SOU, the theme of which is The Capacity Building of Open Universities in the Globalization Era. The delegation also joined some exchange activities of the International Visiting Scholars Program in SOU.
Gu Xiaomin, Vice President of SOU, and relevant staff from the Center for Information and Network Management, the Institute of International Exchange, and the President Office met with the delegation on the morning of Nov. 3. Jiang Hong, President of SOU, and Wang Lianhua, Deputy Party Secretary of SOU also met with the delegation in the International Conference Centre before the international conference began.
Prof. Faisal Elhag spoke highly of the SOU’s achievements on applying modern information technology, and mentioned that African scholars who worked in the area of distance education had benefited a lot from attending the International Visiting Scholars Program of SOU. The integration of Information and communication technology with teaching in SOU was also introduced to the delegation. The two sides shared ideas and suggested further cooperation in carrying out exchange programs for teachers and administrative staff, promoting exchanges in the area of information technology, and strengthening training for teaching faculties.
